Calling folks of the kitchen world to make a connection between modern day cooking and well designed objects with the pure functionality of early civilization. The Handle Me Collection by Awaa Design Studio is a lovely and simple cast iron and wood dowel set that references the bare and raw use of tools from objects like the wheel and the stone axe. What a wonderful concept.

DIY 8 Bit Zelda Fire Wall Art. I recently got a message about posting cheap home decor ideas. This looks pretty easy to do and the galleries of 8 bit art on this site are inspiring. They are doing magnetic interchangeable eight bit installations, but you could just paint this out using a grid. From 8 Bit Living here. First seen at SWISS MISS here (you can see the Etsy Zelda Fireplace Screen at her site).

Minecraft Earrings
Made entirely of polymer clay. The colors of the clay are all mixed by hand, and no paints are used; the color of each pixel permeates the entire piece, not just the surface of the clay.

With Nurture Studies, Diana Scherer presents an archive of flowers she has grown from seed over a six-month period. Rather than letting the flowers grow in open soil, she has forced each plant to develop within the confines of a vase. Only at the end of the process does she remove the plant’s corset, exposing roots that retain their shape as an evocation of the now absent vase.

Confetti Eggs | Oh Happy Day
These confetti eggs are a traditional Easter party item, but I think they would be perfect for New Years Eve! You’re meant to smash them over each other’s heads, so if you decide to use these you might want to have a less fancy bash or at least warn anyone who has copious amounts of gel or hairspray in their hair, or anyone who spent the day at the salon getting their hair done. That’s for guys and girls! Or you could go for something else inside the eggs, like confetti (though that might be hard to get out of hair too!)

I was deeply saddened over the loss of Maurice Sendak, like most kids I’m sure, “Where The Wild Things Are,” was one of my favorite books growing up. I remember getting it at the library with my first library card, I was always drawn to the books with big, big illustrations. So anyway when the girls at Ten Paces & Draw asked me to illustrate something for a Sendak tribute post, I jumped at the chance to be apart of it.
I didn’t really sketch it out, I just put the pencil to the paper with a general idea and this is where i landed. I went with the idea of Max but I did a gender swap, much like Natasha Allegri’s gender swapped Adventure Time characters. I just wanted to have a very somber looking Max holding the boat that she comes to the island on.
Click here to visit Ten Paces & Draw to check out other Maurice Sendak tribute drawings.
I’ll be offering prints of this piece eventually because I know a few people on instagram (I’m @dannybrito on there) asked for it.
Check back tomorrow for some progress photos of this piece! as well as a few other surprises.

Two accessories that will make you smile. Even when you’re doing the dishes! Or cleaning up the book shelves.
It’s the type of thing that makes an environment feel homey. Plus, you can do it yourself, or pay someone to do it for you. This way, you’ll have a story behind it, too!
